Viewing the NHL in the UK 2020/21

The National Hockey League come hell or high water were always going to ensure a season of some sort would take place for 2020/21.

With new divisions finalised, the schedule set, a new playoff format in place and the teams now in training camps, it’s time to look at where you can catch the action in the UK.

Premier Sports continue to hold the television rights for the NHL and have just released their opening week screening schedule.

You can check out the schedule at this link https://www.premiersports.com/sports/nhl and as you can see all the games are due to be broadcast LIVE.

There are also two games listed to be broadcast on the FreeSports channel and I imagine there will be sporadic games shown through the season.

FS is available on BT TV, Talk Talk TV, Virgin Media, Sky and Freeview. It’s also available to view online at no cost at https://www.freesports.tv/. All you’re required to do is create an account – there is no cost involved.

As far as PS is concerned, the channel is available on Sky, Virgin Media and netgem.tv.

They also have an online player only. For costs and various subscription options head to this link https://www.premiersports.com/subscribenow

Currently, there are no promotional deals listed as yet as in previous years but that could easily change close to the NHL starting date of January 13, 2021.

Out of the blue, BT Sports began to broadcast NHL games last season.

After checking their website I’ve seen that is also the case for 2020-21 but you have to dig deep to find which games they intend to show.

What they have listed for now is as follows:

Fri 15th Jan 2021 00:00 New York Islanders @ New York Rangers

Sun 17th Jan 2021 17:00 Washington Capitals @ Pittsburgh Penguins

Fri 22nd Jan 2021 00:00 Philadelphia Flyers @ Boston Bruins

The NHL TV package returns and has prices set for the year but no early bird deals that I could find.

The two packages available are as follows:

2020-2021 All-Access Pass $99.99

2020-2021 Monthly Pass $24.99

You can find the details at this link https://www.nhl.com/subscribe

Blackouts apply as before and I believe that is the case for the games broadcast on BT Sports and FreeSports. There were some anomalies in that regard last year but in all honesty, it feels a bit ‘pot luck’ in that regard.

The devices you can view NHL TV on are Apple, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Xbox, Chromecast, Playstation and Amazon Fire. Details can be acquired at this link https://www.nhl.com/subscribe#devices

All features of NHL TV are too numerous to list here individually so I’ll leave this link https://www.nhl.com/subscribe#features so you can peruse them at your leisure.
