Coming off a fine rookie season in which he played AHL, ECHL and in an Olympic Qualifying tournament, forward Scott Conway has signed with Orlando Solar Bears for the 2020/21 season.
A graduate of Providence College, Conway was scouted by the Bruins organisation during his time in NCAA hockey and was penned to an AHL deal with Providence Bruins.
Five points in thirteen games with the Bruins may not seem like a huge level of production but several factors were at play.
Mostly given fourth line duties with Boston prospects given priority and no power-play time, Conway had to graft particularly hard for the penalty killing opportunities he was afforded.
Four even-strength points included two goals and a primary assist, while his third goal was a short-handed tally. Not bad for an AHL rookie.
The Atlanta Gladiators benefited from the 25-year-old’s scoring prowess at the ECHL level, as Conway helped himself to 33 points in 39 games including seventeen goals.
He will likely tell you if you ask him that he should have had more points and goals.
That is something you can get an insight into with this interview I conducted with Scott Conway this past February in Nottingham, England shortly before making his international debut for Great Britain.

Great Britain’s coaching staff were impressed by the play of the Basingstoke native.
Assistant coach Adam Keefe had this to say when I asked him about the rookie.
“We knew he’d come in and have an impact. He has top-six quality from our assessment watching his progression from college to professional in the AHL and ECHL.
His [level of] play was still a pleasant surprise, he was in on the forecheck, working hard for the team and that’s the way Pete [Russel] wants to see him playing. Be aggressive, forecheck hard and turn the puck over for us as we look to outwork teams and we are very happy with him.”

Although Great Britain would fall in the last game of the tournament to Hungary, who progressed to the next stage of qualification, Conway could be happy with his performances that included two goals and an assist in three games.
Conway could make his Solar Bears debut as soon as tomorrow (Tuesday, December 29, 2020) with Orlando hosting the Jacksonville Icemen.
Orlando is 2-1-0 so far this season and doubtless, Conway can aid an offense that has scored nine goals in three outings.
