When the Vegas Golden Knights became the NHL’s 31st franchise, they chose to affiliate with the independently owned AHL team, Chicago Wolves.
The plan was for Vegas to have their own American Hockey League affiliate within five years and they made it happen within three.
The Golden Knights purchased the San Antonio Rampage franchise, the minor league affiliate of the St. Louis Blues, on February 7, 2020, to apply for relocation. The AHL approved the sale on February 28, 2020, and since then things have moved at pace.
The Henderson Silver Knights were officially introduced as the Golden Knights’ new AHL affiliate during a one-hour live show on KSNV NBC Las Vegas that was also streamed across their social platforms on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Twitch on Thursday, May 28, 2020.

At this time it’s unclear whether the Silver Knights will take the place of San Antonio Rampage in the Central Division but there are bigger fish to fry as far as the AHL are concerned right now.
The Henderson Silver Knights will play at least next season at Orleans Arena.
Their home will eventually be a 6,000-seat arena yet to be built, named the Henderson Events Center.
The ground is set to be broken in August 2020.
On May 19, Golden Knights president Kerry Bubolz announced the organization has secured at least 7,600 deposits for Silver Knights season tickets next season.
Owner Bill Foley stated that tickets will start at $10 next season and there’s a reason for optimism with this new venture, as Vegas has proven they are a hot ticket in town.
Henderson introduced themselves on Twitter in a fashion we’ve seen from the Vegas Twitter account.
The logo is a horse formed in an ‘H’ to represent Henderson. There are 20 chain links and 21 rivets on the base to represent the 2020-21 inaugural season.
The Golden Knights’ shield encompasses the warhorse; the steed “played a vital role in a knight’s quest to become elite, assisting in the night’s raining, skill advancement and overall development,” according to the club’s website.
Henderson is not the first team in AHL history to incorporate ‘Knights” into their name, however.
The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights hold that distinction but the affiliate of the Calgary Flames would last for just two seasons before being relocated to Quad City and renamed the Quad City Flames.
