With the 2018 playoffs in full swing the American Hockey League’s board of governors met to approve the divisional alignment for the 2018-19 season.
The Colorado Eagles will officially become the 31st member of the AHL and slot into the Pacific Division where it’s highly likely they will contest 68 regular season games to stay in line with the six teams they join.
San Antonio Rampage and Texas Stars are departing the Pacific and move back to the Central Division.
The Cleveland Monsters now find their home in the North Division after a short stay in the Central as those in charge look to bring some finality to the league’s alignment.
All these changes will result in the North, Atlantic and Central Division consisting of eight teams and the Pacific left at seven with the prospect of a 32nd expansion joining the league in line with the NHL adding Seattle.
