Former Cardiff HC hired by iconic CHL outfit

The Halifax Mooseheads announced today that Andrew Lord has been hired as the club’s fourteenth head coach in franchise history.

Based in Nova Scotia, Halifax competes in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League since being founded in 1994.

Since 2005, Halifax has been in five President Cup Finals but won just one championship in 2013. In the same year, the Mooseheads went on to clinch the Memorial Cup.
The organization has hosted the Memorial Cup twice but failed to capture a win on home ice.

Notable alumni include Alex Tanguay, Jean-Sébastien Giguère, Nathan MacKinnon, Jonathan Drouin, Nikolaj Ehlers, Timo Meier and Nico Hischier.

During six years as Head Coach of the Cardiff Devils, Lord did nothing but win.
Three Conference titles, two Challenge Cups, a pair of Elite League titles and two playoff championships made him the most successful HC in team history.

Lord moved back to his native North America in 2020 taking on the Head Coach role along with Director of Hockey Operations for ECHL outfit, Greenville Swamp Rabbits.

Though unable to replicate playoff success, Lord guided Greenville to post-season action each year and the team posted 40+ wins in the two most recent campaigns.

The league recognized his achievement by awarding him the Coach of the Year accolade this past season.

The move to junior is far from a step-down, with many AHL and NHL teams hiring directly from the CHL’s three leagues (QMJHL/OHL/WHL).

Expectations will be high in Halifax after a disappointing 2023-24 campaign.
Despite topping the Maritimes Division for the second consecutive campaign, Halifax were swept in the opening round of the playoffs by Acadie-Bathurst.
